Castelão it is one of the most cultivated varieties in the south of the country, particularly in the area of Península of Setúbal. This variety grows better in hot climates and sandy and dry soils, because when it is planted in humid and fertile soils, it produces weak quality wines. The wines produced by the Castelão variety are concentrated, aromatic and with good conditions to age. The area of the Península of Setúbal produces the best wines of Castelão.
