The Ramisco variety is characteristic of Colares area. Its cultivation is very peculiar and difficult, since this variety is planted in "ground of sand" and without door-grafts. The vineyards are located very close to the sea and close to great cities, for that, because of the town pressure, the labor lack and the weak profitability of the cultivation almost extinguished this variety. The Ramisco variety has a late maturation. Its bunches are medium and compact of small and round berries. The wines have an alcoholic gradation relatively low, high acidity and intense tannins. After they age in bottle, these wines become softer and aromatic.
