Also known as Tinta Pinheira, the Rufete variety is mostly cultivated in the Douro and Dão regions, with a higher incidence in Pinhel, Figueiro de Castelo Rodrigo and Cova da Beira sub-regions. It is a productive variety and has medium-sized bunches and berries, but it is sensitive to powdery mildew. When it reaches the ideal maturation time, the Rufete grape variety gives rise to full-bodied, aromatic wines with aging potential.
