This is a noble and much appreciated variety in Portugal. Initially planted in the area of Dão, quickly it expanded to Douro region to be used in port wine production. Recently, the producers discovered the value of Touriga Nacional in the production of table wines and its cultivation was enlarged for other areas such as Alentejo. It is a variety of little production: it possesses abundant bunches, but small. The berries have a high concentration of sugar, color and aromas. The wines produced by Touriga Nacional are quite balanced and with good aging capacity.
