One of the most planted varieties in Portugal. It is cultivated in the centre and south, mostly in Bairrada, where they call it Maria Gomes. Fernão Pires has a very precocious maturation and it is for that, one of the first ones to be harvested. The Fernão Pires variety is also very sensitive to frost and prefers fertile soils where the climate is seasoned or hot. Medium acidity, what turns this wines into intense and with floral aromas.
