This variety is just cultivated in the Douro region and Trás-os-Montes since the XIX century. It is considered a good quality grape and it is indicated for the production of still wines and port wine. In spite of that, it presents a weak production and it is for that, less cultivated. The bunches are small, just as the berries, sensitive to rottenness, and the maturation is precocious. The Viosinho variety prefers not very dry soils. The wines are well structured, fresh, with floral and complex aromas. Alcohol graduation a little high and with capacity to stay in bottle during some years.
