Wine Region - Beira Interior

The region of Beira Interior is located in the interior of Portugal, next to Spain, and is the most mountainous place of mainland Portugal. Its origin comes from the uniting of three regions: Castelo Rodrigo, Cova de Beira and Pinhel. Here there are 16.000 hectares of vineyard and a great number of different varieties.

The wines from this region are characterized by the multiple and distinctive climates in Beira Interior. Thanks to the height of the mountains, the temperatures can vary from very hot and dry in the summer to wind and snow in the winter.

On the ground there could be found granite and shale thanks to the mountainous terrain.

From Beira there are white wines, red wines, rose and sparkling wines. The reds here produced are defined as fruity and full bodied and the whites, fresh and aromatic.
