Vinha das Cardosas
Acácio, the nurse, is one of the most popular men in Cantanhede. One of those people who, literally, knows everything. The people, the families, the land, the grapes, and the wine. For the Casca winemakers he was thus the right person for the usual challenge of finding a special vineyard, far from the big producers. Without hesitation, Acácio took the Casca winemakers to Cardosas, where the Veloso family’s exceptional vineyards he cultivates is hidden. For many, this is the best Bairrada grape area, because of the shallow, chalky soil, ideal for making fresh and balanced wine. The vineyard, planted almost 100 years ago (1914), has the famous grapes of the area, small and concentrated. The harvesting is done by the many people in the village who want to repay the favours done by the nurse. Which gives this wine an even greater feeling of family and sincerity.
Thank you, Vera, Acácio’s daughter, for taking us to the famous nurse who is so passionate about what he grows.
