Lameiras Vineyard
With an iron rod! Thus was planted the Lameiras Vineyard.
The first step in our project of making wine is to find vineyards. In the untiring search we make each year in the Douro, we chanced upon Vinha das Lameiras. In our search for more old wines. Mr. António Branco, the cultivator of this vineyard, took us to a south-facing slope at 678m of altitude in one of the highest areas of S. João da Pesqueira. We arrived at vines, planted in the traditional way, by driving an iron rod deep into the ground for the roots. Worked by mule. The soil covered by schist stones when stepping conveyed a unique sound. None of the vines bore more than a single bunch, and none of these weighed more than 100g. Acknowledgement: Thanks to Mr. António Branco for the opportunity to show something truly unique.
